Our History

 

Nick Garnett, Owner, President, and CEO of NDG Insurance Services, Inc. Doing Business As (DBA): Garnett-Powers & Associates, is dedicated to providing the excellence in customer service that the agency has been known for, for over 33 years. Having been ‘raised’ in the health insurance brokerage industry, working in the company as early as 17 in various positions, from Receptionist, to Account Manager, to Director of Operations, Nick brings a wealth of experience, knowledge and technical expertise that is important for him to provide to the most important part of his business…his clients.

Nicks’ parents, Tom and Joan Garnett, created the business, having both worked in companies they felt didn’t understand the true value of delivering thoughtfulness and care along with excellent customer service. They both felt traditional health insurance brokerage agencies lacked the desire to truly protect and provide ongoing guidance to their clients. Rather than settling for the status quo, they decided to create their own agency, dedicated to putting the client first by providing excellent customer service and excellent health insurance products tailored to the needs of each individual client.

Within five years of starting the business, what was then known as Benefits by Design, grew to be an established employee benefits provider, focusing on offering core benefits and unparalleled customer service to the business community. In 1996, Tom and Joan changed the company’s name to Garnett-Powers & Associates (GPA), combining the Garnett name with Joan’s maiden name, Powers.

GPA’s rich past has served as a rock-solid foundation for building an agency unlike any other. Nick continues to share his technical knowledge and caring client focus with organizations who seek a health insurance broker that knows the value of expertise, competent solutions and thoughtful customer service beyond expectation.

Up until the Provost’s Office hired Garnett-Powers & Associates (GPA) to handle our postdoc benefit program, the postdocs only had a limited benefit student plan available. We met with GPA to learn how they could offer a comprehensive benefit program, design a website for efficient online enrollment and handle the billing and carrier premium payments. With their commitment to meeting with all of our stakeholders, that included many departments, payroll, human resources, risk management, and the postdoc administrative office, they learned of our specific needs and very quickly designed and implemented an excellent program with a broad spectrum of benefits.
